Winter Environmental provided asbestos abatement and select demolition services at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Montag, Freeman and Fitten Residence Halls, located on Georgia Tech’s Atlanta, Georgia urban campus.
The asbestos project scope included the removal and disposal of 5,500 sf of thermal systems insulation, 39,450 sf of asbestos-containing flooring and flooring mastics, carpet, rubber base, padding, and drywall compound associated with wall system removal, 24,100 sf of mastic on CMU walls, 1,800 sf of roof flashing and 35,500 sf of popcorn ceilings throughout the halls.
The 39,000 sf demolition project scope (combined area of Montag & Freeman Halls) included demolition of drywall ceilings, bulkheads and soffits, acoustical tile ceilings, wall and floor ceramic tile including grout bases, thick set mortar beds, sheetrock/gypsum wall assemblies, masonry walls, exterior railings, millwork, desks, vanities, furniture and various equipment, wood nailer boards, window treatments, interior stairs and roll-up doors and bollards.
Universal Waste, including light bulbs and ballasts, were separated from fixtures and disposed of off site as a recycled materials. Winter Environmental provided necessary measures to meet and exceed USGBC LEED requirements as identified in the project specifications for the specified demolition work.
