CHOA – former BellSouth Conference Center

ATLANTA, GA

Former-Bellsouth-small

Atlanta Demolition, contracted by construction managers Gilbane Building Company, selected Winter Environmental for asbestos abatement services at a Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) owned property. Located just north of downtown Atlanta, the 5 acre site included a 19 story hotel, three, low-rise hospitality structures and an education center. The combined interior space of all the structures was 350,000 sf.

Asbestos abatement services were required prior to completed demolition and included the removal of the interior drywall; Transite, thermal systems insulation, floor tile and mastic,
spray applied acoustical ceiling materials, exterior roofing and spray-applied exterior coating.

Mast climber platforms were used to fully access and remove the spray-applied exterior coating of the 19 story building. Each mast climber platform was fully contained, sealed at each level
and placed under negative air, utilizing 2000 CFM HEPA filtered air filtration devices. As many as six mastclimber platforms were in operation at the same time. As each building face was completed,
the mastclimbers were dismantled and relocated to locations as needed. This, in addition to simultaneous work on other exteriors and interiors of the structures, allowed the project
to be completed within a very aggressive, three month schedule prior to complete implosion and demolition and implosion of the structures. A total of 80,000 sf of exterior coating was abated.
